Gonzalez exits, Shields struggles as Padres beat Rockies (Yahoo Sports)

Colorado right fielder Carlos Gonzalez left with pain in his surgically-repaired left knee, and new San Diego ace James Shields struggled in the Padres' 7-5 victory over the Rockies on Friday night. Gonzalez exited after striking out in the top of the fourth. ''When I hit the brakes on that fly ball and threw the ball to the plate, that's when you put a lot of pressure on your knees,'' Gonzalez said. ''But nothing major.'' The tweak presents concerns as Gonzalez has played in only 180 of a possible 324 games the past two seasons.

Yordano Ventura pitched seven innings of no-hit ball before being lifted because of pitch count, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. The Royals' opening-day starter walked two and struck out four, facing only one batter over the minimum. Ventura, who threw 49 strikes in 88 pitches, retired the final 11 batters he faced after walking Seth Smith to lead off the fourth. Ventura induced Nelson Cruz to ground into a double play to end that inning.

Mariners reliever David Rollins suspended 80 games (Yahoo Sports)

Seattle Mariners reliever David Rollins was suspended for 80 games on Friday for the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Major League Baseball announced Rollins' suspension, saying he tested positive for Stanozolol, a synthetic anabolic steroid. Rollins will not appeal the suspension. ''This was when I got back from winter ball,'' Rollins said.
