Kyle Hendricks scattered four hits over seven innings, Starlin Castro had three hits and scored three runs, and the Chicago Cubs beat Los Angeles 8-2 on Friday night, snapping the Dodgers' six-game winning streak. Making his fourth major league start after being called up from Triple-A, Hendricks (2-1) allowed one earned run, struck out three and walked one in his return to Dodger Stadium, where he pitched in high school. Ryan Sweeney had two hits and scored twice, and Luis Valbuena homered and drove in two runs for the last-place Cubs, who have won four of their last five. Dan Haren's woes followed him into a new month.

Sonny Gray has been so good over the past two months the Oakland Athletics haven't needed to score runs in bunches. On Friday night, with slugger Yoenis Cespedes gone to the Boston Red Sox, they had no answer for Jeremy Guthrie. Raul Ibanez homered on Gray's lone mistake, breaking his own franchise record for oldest Royals player to clear the fences and leading Kansas City past the A's 1-0 on Friday night. The 42-year-old Ibanez connected in the fifth inning for his fifth homer, giving Guthrie the lone run he needed for Kansas City's first victory at the Oakland Coliseum since April 10, 2012.

Chris Sale had a rare off night on the mound. Good thing for the White Sox, Jose Abreu came through again at the plate. The Cuban slugger reached base five times while extending his hitting streak to 21 games, and Chicago scored four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Minnesota Twins 10-8 on Friday night. The 21-game hitting streak is the longest by a White Sox player since Carlos Lee's club-record run of 28 in 2004.

Peralta wins 13th, Brewers beat Cardinals 7-4 (Yahoo Sports)

Aramis Ramirez knows he's not supposed to have success like this against Adam Wainwright. ''I don't have an explanation for it,'' the Milwaukee Brewers cleanup man said after setting the tone with a home run and RBI double off the St. Louis Cardinals' ace in a 7-4 victory Friday night. ''I don't know, for some reason I get good swings and good pitches to hit.'' Ramirez has three homers, eight doubles and eight RBIs to go with a .415 average against Wainwright, the best in the majors against the right-hander. The homer was the first Wainwright has ever allowed on a 3-0 count.

Trout and Hamilton homer, Angels beat Rays 5-3 (Yahoo Sports)

The Los Angeles Angels powered their way to a victory. Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton homered to help the Angels beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Friday night Trout hit his 25th homer of the season, a two-run shot off Jeremy Hellickson (0-1) during a three-run first that put the Angels up 3-0. ''A good win tonight for sure.'' Los Angeles went ahead 4-1 on Hamilton's solo homer in the third.
