Aaron Hill hit a two-run single in the 12th inning and Miguel Montero homered, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. To do it, the Diamondbacks had to overcome Juan Uribe's tying homer in the ninth off closer Addison Reed. Gerardo Parra advanced the runners with a sacrifice, and Hill lined an 0-1 pitch to right-center to break the tie. Joe Thatcher (0-1) pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings for the victory and six-year veteran Trevor Cahill got three outs for his first major league save.

The Giants were the rival at heart for me growing up.'' Ross held the Giants to four hits, struck out nine and walked one. The Padres handed Matt Cain his third straight loss.

Martin Perez turned toward first base, waiting for the call he hoped was coming. When the umpire's arm went up signaling a strikeout on Dayan Viciedo's check-swing with a full count, the young Texas Rangers left-hander pumped his fist and waited for a hug from catcher Robinson Chirinos. Perez pitched a three-hitter for his first career shutout, Leonys Martin drove in four runs and the Rangers routed the Chicago White Sox 12-0 Friday night. ''I just say, 'Give me the strike,' because I don't want the walk and then maybe they take me out,'' Perez said of his 109th pitch.
