Gunfire, arrests erupt as Giants fans revel in win (Yahoo Sports)

The celebration in San Francisco's streets over the Giants' World Series victory turned raucous and violent, with two people injured by gunfire and a third stabbed. The partying unfolded peacefully Wednesday night with fans gathering in the streets and uncorking champagne, dancing and hugging strangers after their team won its third championship in five years with a 3-2 victory over Kansas City in the winner-take-all seventh game. It's the Giants. They do this all the time,'' San Francisco native Barbra Norris, 54, said of the team's odds-defying victory in Kansas City the night after a 10-0 loss.

Giants ace Bumgarner wins World Series MVP (Yahoo Sports)

Madison Bumgarner was limbering up at Kauffman Stadium this week, getting loose with his San Francisco teammates near the dugout, when Tim Hudson and Michael Morse sneaked up from behind and ruffled the pitcher's long, scraggly locks. They were about the only ones who could touch Bumgarner in this World Series. The 25-year-old Bumgarner capped off a most splendid October and earned MVP honors Wednesday night, pitching five scoreless innings of relief in Game 7 as the Giants held off the Kansas City Royals 3-2.

Kauffman Stadium had fallen silent for the first time all night. In the Royals' clubhouse, Alex Gordon had finally peeled off his dirt-stained jersey. He had just watched the San Francisco Giants celebrate their third World Series title in five years, capped by a 3-2 victory in Game 7 on Wednesday night. The Giants had taken the lead in the fourth inning, and the game amounted to a battle of bullpens.

Scoring decision gives Affeldt Game 7 win (Yahoo Sports)

Madison Bumgarner will have to settle for the longest save in World Series history rather than a Game 7 win. Bumgarner was originally credited by the official scorers with the win after throwing five innings of shutout relief to close out San Francisco's 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Wednesday night. After consulting with the Elias Sports Bureau, Bumgarner was credited with the save instead and reliever Jeremy Affeldt got the win for his first career Series decision. Under rule 10.17, the only way a pitcher does not get the win when he is in the game when the winning run scores is if he is a starter and did not go five innings or was ''ineffective in a brief appearance.'' Affeldt pitched 2 1-3 scoreless innings in relief of Tim Hudson and therefore earned the win.

Madison Bumgarner punctuated his World Series performance for the ages by pitching the San Francisco Giants to their third championship in five years with a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. I was just thinking about getting outs, getting outs, until I couldn't get them anymore and we needed someone else,'' Bumgarner said in a monotone that made it sound as though he was talking about batting practice. Bumgarner had retired 14 in a row when Alex Gordon sent a drive to center field. The pitcher pointed his glove in the air, thinking it could be the final out, but the ball fell in front of Gregor Blanco for a single.
