Bumgarner flirts with perfection in 3-0 Giants win (Yahoo Sports)

Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner wanted to waste a two-strike curveball in front of Rockies cleanup hitter Justin Morneau. He left the ball up just enough for Morneau to get a piece of it - the only mistake on an otherwise memorable night for the San Francisco left-hander. Bumgarner pitched a one-hitter and matched his career high of 13 strikeouts, and the Giants beat the Rockies 3-0 on Tuesday night to snap a three-game losing streak. ''I was going to try to bounce a curveball,'' Bumgarner said.

Cano homers, Mariners beat Rangers 5-0 (Yahoo Sports)

The rust is starting to come off for James Paxton, and the rest of the American League might want to take note. Given an early lead after Robinson Cano hit his 12th home run in the first, Paxton pitched into the seventh inning in a bounce-back start to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 5-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. ''He's getting there, he's not quite there as far as command is concerned, but I think stuff-wise, velocity-wise, yeah, he's there,'' said Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon of Paxton, who missed almost four months due to a strained back muscle. Seattle broke open a two-run game in the fifth, with the big blow coming on a double by Endy Chavez, which drove in a pair.

Dodgers' big inning leads to win (Yahoo Sports)

Baseball's replay review system worked well for the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night in their 9-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers plated six runs in the fourth inning thanks in large part to two overturned out calls and cruised to their 11th win in 15 games against Arizona this season. With the game tied at 2, the Dodgers hit five consecutive singles off Arizona starter Trevor Cahill (3-9) in the fourth. The Dodgers led 4-2 when A.J. Ellis singled to center field.

Trout, Shoemaker lead Angels' 8-2 rout of Marlins (Yahoo Sports)

While everybody else in the Los Angeles Angels' rotation has dealt with serious injuries and wild inconsistency this summer, Matt Shoemaker has been unshakable for two months. Mike Trout had an RBI double and Albert Pujols added a two-run single during Los Angeles' five-run fourth inning, and the Angels regained sole possession of the majors' best record with an 8-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. Shoemaker (13-4) yielded two hits over seven scoreless innings as the Angels (78-53) moved one game ahead of the AL West rival Oakland Athletics, who lost to Houston. Five days after Shoemaker took a no-hitter into the seventh inning at Fenway Park, he walked two and struck out six while holding his seventh straight opponent to fewer than two earned runs.
