Mets hit 3 homers in 5 pitches to sweep Nationals, 5-2 (Yahoo Sports)

For the first time in years, the New York Mets are a late show worth watching. Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy and streaking Lucas Duda homered in a span of five pitches, a sudden power strike that charged up Citi Field and sent the Mets past the Washington Nationals 5-2 Sunday night for a three-game sweep. ''I've never been in a playoff atmosphere, but tonight sure felt like one,'' Duda said.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Kris Bryant left the game feeling a little woozy. Hector Rondon nearly squandered a three-run lead in the ninth inning. Joe Maddon got ejected.

Ethier's 2 HRs help Dodgers beat Angels 5-3 in 10 (Yahoo Sports)

Andre Ethier always wanted to be the guy who made the game-winning 3-pointer or catch the game-winning touchdown pass in the end zone as time expired. Ethier, starting in the cleanup spot for the fourth time this season, hit his second dramatic homer in three innings - a two-run shot in the 10th - to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a three-game Freeway Series sweep with a 5-3 victory over the sputtering Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The Dodgers are 4-0 when Ethier hits cleanup.

Texas Rangers left-hander Martin Perez followed a nightmarish performance in which he failed to get an out in the second inning with a dream outing in which he nearly shut out the world champion San Francisco Giants. Perez (1-2) allowed only two hits in 8 1-3 innings Sunday to beat the Giants 2-1. Last Tuesday against the New York Yankees, he left after the first eight batters in the second inning reached base.

Conforto back with Mets; Nieuwenhuis placed on 15-day DL (Yahoo Sports)

Michael Conforto's minor league assignment lasted all of one day. The New York Mets recalled their top hitting prospect from Triple-A Las Vegas when fellow outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with discomfort in his neck and left shoulder. Conforto was optioned to Las Vegas on Saturday to make room for slugger Yoenis Cespedes, acquired Friday in a trade-deadline deal with Detroit.
