David Beckham - Why All The Fuss?

To watch David Beckham playing is to watch a master craftsman at work, perhaps even an artist! As European mourns, The States awaits his arrival with many wondering why.
As we all know, is continuing to grow in America and with the arrival of Beckham it's about to get a nice boost. Even sports fans who don't follow are wondering what makes this guy so special.
To understand the phenomena that is David Beckham you need to understand the player. The reason he first won the England fans over and then the Real Madrid fans was not because he was the best player in the team, he wasn't. Nor was it his speed, or his ball juggling skills, his witty after match comments etc.
The reason true fans the world over, despite their allegiance to other clubs, cannot help but admire him when they watch David Beckham playing is because He never ever gives up. He plays with his heart on his sleeve for all to see and has done for some time now. That is why one day soon when you see his team mates hang their heads at 2-0 down with 5 minutes to go and you see David Beckham running, chasing and shouting at his team like his life depended on it, that is when the American sports fan will say "ahh..... now I get it!"
It helps of course that he is the worlds best crosser of the ball as well as one of the worlds best free kick takers. These skills again show you Beckham's mindset and determination. He was never a naturally skillful player in the mold of say a Pele or George Best and as a young lad in the youth team trying to break
into Manchester United's first team, e had a problem - he couldn't beat a defender! Every time he tried to go round or past one he would lose the ball.
He soon realized if he was to progress under the ever watchful eye of the great coach Sir Alex Ferguson he needed a solution. So instead of trying to beat the defender and losing the ball he simply learnt to cross the ball into the danger area for others, learning how to make it swerve around the defense and thereby completely removing the need to worry about a little thing like defenders!
Learning to bend the ball so much meant he quickly established himself as Manchester Uniteds free kick specialist and later England's. Both his peers and fans around the world regard David Beckham one of the greatest free kick takers their is.
