Help Me Be A Nascar Fan

I want to be a fan because my whole family talks all the time. Last weekend (June 3, 2006) I went to a 90th birthday party for a dear friend of mine. I was left out of most conversations because all everyone talked about was the ‘monster mile’ in Dover, Delaware.
A few years ago I picked a rookie driver to be my ‘favorite’. I picked Tony Stewart. Well, he certainly has been a shining star in the field of drivers. I wish him well, but I probably won’t be watching the race from Pocono, Pennsylvania this weekend and I don’t
know why.
What is the secret desire you guys have that I do not? What makes you sit in front of your television for hours on end watching drivers make left hand turns and getting so close to the driver in front of them (going over a hundred miles an hour) that there isn’t enough room to walk between the two cars? Is it the crossing the finish line first, the thrill of a possible crash, or the speed at which the drivers can drive?
