The Los Angeles Kings team is an Ice team from Los Angeles, California. They belong to the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National League (NHL). The team was created in 1966 under the leadership of Jack Kent Cooke. The Forum in Inglewood, California was their home ground for over 32 years. They later moved to Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

They began the season well by defeating their rivals Anaheim Ducks but finished with the worst record in the league.

On July 17, 2008, Terry Murray became the 22nd head coach in franchise history. On October 8, 2008, right wing Dustin Brown was named as the 15th captain and Brown became the youngest captain and first American born captain in Kings’ history.

Center Anze Kopitar and defenseman Matt Greene were named as alternate captains.
