Brief History Of Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks, formed in 1926, is a NHL team which represents Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the original six NHL teams. The logo of the team is the face of a Native American. They started without much fanfare in 1927 they managed to reach playoffs. In 1931 they managed to make it to the Stanley Cup finals but were defeated by Montreal Canadiens. In 1934, the team bagged the Stanley Cup due to brilliant performance of Paul Thompson and Gardiner. The next few years were quite bad for Blackhawks, till in 1938 when they reached the finals. The Blackhawk tickets were sold out in minutes for the final game. The Blackhawks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs and won their second Stanley Cup.
The worst time for the team started when their team owner Frederic McLaughlin died in 1944. By the 1950s, the rumors were rife for the team going out of action. Then the team’s financial control was taken over by James Norris and Arthur Wirtz and the team underwent some changes. In the late fifties the Blackhawks acquired a few prospective players – forwards Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, defense man Pierre Pilote, and veteran forward Ted Lindsay.
In 1962 and 1965 the team made it to the cup finals but lost to Toronto Maple Leafs and Habs respectively. In 1967 the Blackhawks were first to finish but they lost to Toronto Maple Leafs in the semifinals.
In 1971 the Blackhawks again managed to reach the cup finals, but after that another downturn followed which continued till 1982. The later part of 80s bought the team constant first games defeats. In the 90s their bad luck continued as they managed to reach some finals but they were unsuccessful in winning the cup.
The last few years have been quite pathetic for the Chicago Blackhawks, as they have failed to see the playoffs again and again. But now their current GM Dale Tallon is trying to make changes to the team and help it move from the dead
point. He plans to reorganize the team and also make some new acquisitions.
