Yankees And Red Sox After Asian Pitchers

In the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have had a serious rivalry for a long time. But now they are competing to get the best Asian pitchers. Japanese Daisuke Matsuzaka has received a huge amount of money after negotiating with the Boston Red Sox and the Yankees answered to this situation by offering a great deal to Kei Igawa, a left-hander from the Hanshin Tigers.
Hanshin, the Japanese team accepted $26 million dollars from the New Yorkers for the negotiation but now the American team has until December 28th at midnight to settle a contract with Igawa. If they don’t reach an agreement, the Yankees will receive their money back. The Yankees have the highest payroll in baseball.
The Yankees bid $33 million for Daisuke Matsuzaka but their offer was foiled by the Boston Red Sox ($51.1 million). This also happened to many other teams like the New York Mets that bid
$39 million for Matsuzaka and $15 million for Igawa. None of the businesses worked out for this team.
This time the Yankees wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t miss another opportunity like they did with Matsuzaka, so they are “batting high” offering Igawa a better deal.
Kei Igawa is the third Japanese player posted this winter, along with Matsuzaka and infielder Akinori Iwamura, whose rights were acquired by the Tampa bay Devil Rays for about $4.5 million.
