Wooden Baseball Bats Vs. Aluminum Baseball Bats
By APP Manager
Aluminum Bats vs Wood Bats

What benefits are there with bats made from aluminum? What advantages are there with a wood bat? This is a question that most players need to consider when they are getting a new baseballor softball bat. Here, we will describe the differences so that you can decide yourself.

An advantage of an aluminum bat is that the bat is able to be more forgiving. Batters will still make contact with the ball and get a decent hit. If the ball is hit too close to the handle with a wood bat, the bat can break. This makes an aluminum bat a lot better for hitting inside pitches. Numerous college baseballplayers have a hard time transitioning to pro baseball, as in collegiate play, they almost exclusively use aluminum bats. Pro bats are all wood and often players have a difficult timefeeling comfortable with the weight.

Because wood bats are solid, the bulk of the weight distribution is in the barrel. What this means is that the center of gravity will be farther away from the hands. Thealuminum baseball bat is a lot more flexible and as a result, the center of gravity can then be placed closer to the hands. Because the center of gravity isn't as far from the hands, an aluminum bat can have a swing weight that's lower. The bat itself, however, might weigh as much as a wooden bat. Aluminum bats are able to have a swing weight that's lower, since the bat's weight is closer to the hands. What that does is make the bat easier to swing versus the center of gravity and weight being farther from the hands as it is in a wooden bat. Because the bat is easier to swing, the player will have a faster bat swing which results in the ball coming off the bat more quickly.

This is a clear-cut advantage that an aluminum bat has over a wood one.

One of the disadvantages of the aluminum bat is that the weight distribution of the bat is more uniform. There isn't as much mass in the bat's barrel and this makes the bat have a less adequate collision with the ball. The ball typically leaves the bat faster and more quickly with a bat that's heavier than it does for a light bat. Only the bat's barrel has an effect on turning the ball around andpropelling the ball back at a high rate of speed. The barrel of the aluminum bat is unable to have the same effect as wood bats do. The aluminum bat tends to compress when the ball hits the bat. This effect slows down the ball as it is released from the bat. The wooden bat won't compress, but, the ball does, and lose more energy than the aluminum bat.

Wood bats are solid, while the aluminum bat is hollow. This is particularly important because it makes a difference in the center of gravity and the weight of the bat. For a wooden bat, in order to make it fatter or longer, it must also weigh more. For an aluminum bat, the outer shell can be made thinner so the bat doesn't need to be so heavy. Because of this, the aluminum bat is more flexible and provides people more choices without having to get a bat that's so heavy.
