On any given day, all around the world, people are playingbasketball. Today, rates as one of the all-time mostpopular sports worldwide. tournaments are played outbetween players of all age groups from little five and six yearolds to adults of all ages and levels. Sports networks aroundthe world, on any given day, will report on professionalbasketball tournaments around the world and broadcast local andinternational games.

Basketball continues to grow in popularity, because it is arelatively cheap game to get into, can be played indoors andoutdoors, in summer and winter, by girls or boys, men and women,anywhere in the world.

When one thinks of one normally associates it withthe United States and the legendary Harlem Globetrotters.Americans have been playing professionally since1896, but today, there are up to 300 million people playingbasketball all around the entire globe. In fact, these days,American teams even recruit foreign players

intotheir teams.


According to Wikipedia.com, didn't evolve from oldermore primitive versions of the game, but was invented by a mancalled Dr. James Naismith, in 1891, so that his college studentscould keep fit in the winter. In fact, that's how collegebasketball began! The game was initially played with a soccerball. Then a brown ball was designed. The characteristic orangeball that we know today was designed in the late 1950s.

From American college to professional league,basketball first evolved into an international sport in 1932 andbecame an Olympic sport in 1936. Since then, its popularityworldwide has grown exponentially.
